Custom iron-on patches

A heat-activated film on the back of the patch. Press it with an iron and the adhesive melts into the weave of the fabric. It is the fastest way to get a badge onto a garment and needs no sewing skill at all.

Why choose it

  • Applied in under a minutePosition, cover with a cloth, press. No needle, no machine, no unpicking if you change your mind about placement before you press.
  • Even on every pieceUseful when a team or a school is applying hundreds of badges without a sewing room.
  • Can still be stitchedMany people iron first to hold the position, then run a stitch round the edge for permanence. The two are not exclusive.

Where it is the wrong choice

Iron-on will not hold on waterproof and technical shells, on leather, or on anything that cannot take an iron — the coating stops the adhesive reaching the fibres, and the heat can damage the garment. For those, choose sew-on or velcro.

Choose sew-on patches instead if the garment is leather, waterproof or heat-sensitive.

How to apply it

  1. Heat the iron to a cotton setting with the steam off. Steam is water, and water is what stops the adhesive bonding.
  2. Position the patch, then cover it with a thin cotton cloth or a tea towel so the iron never touches the patch face.
  3. Press down firmly and hold for 20-30 seconds. Press — do not slide the iron around, which drags the patch out of position.
  4. Let it cool completely before touching it, then lift one edge with a fingernail. If it lifts, press again for another 20 seconds.
  5. If the fabric allows, press from the inside of the garment as well. The adhesive bonds better with heat from both directions.

Washing and care

Turn the garment inside out to wash and keep it off the hottest tumble dryer setting — repeated high heat is what eventually softens the bond. If the garment is going to be washed weekly for years, run a stitch around the border as well; ironing holds the position while you sew, which is the easy way to do it.

Questions we get asked

Question not answered here? Message us and a real person will answer. Ask us →
Washing Will it come off in the wash?

Not from normal washing if it was pressed properly and the fabric was right for it. Heat, time and pressure are all three necessary — a quick press with a cool iron is the usual reason one lifts later.

Reinforcing Can I sew it as well?

Yes, and for anything that gets hard wear we would. Iron it on to hold the position, then stitch the border. The two work together rather than against each other.

Fabrics Which fabrics will it not work on?

Waterproof and technical shells, because the coating stops the adhesive reaching the fibres. Leather, which the heat damages. Nylon and anything synthetic that melts. Highly textured fabric, because the adhesive only touches the high points. For all of those, choose sew-on or velcro.

Applying Can I reposition it after pressing?

Barely. Reheating can loosen it enough to move, but the fabric often shows where it was. Check the position twice before the iron goes down.

Lead time How long does an order take?

Production runs 3 to 6 business days, counted from the moment you approve the proof — not from when you place the order. Shipping is on top of that and depends on the destination and the service you choose.

Timing When does the clock start?

At proof approval. Nothing is cut, stitched or struck until you have seen the digital proof and said yes, so a slow approval moves the finish date with it.

Destinations Where do you ship?

We make to order and ship from Dubai across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain, and to the United States and United Kingdom. Ask us for anywhere else — it is usually possible.

Minimums Is there a minimum order?

Not on embroidered patches — order one if one is what you need. Moulded and struck lines carry a minimum because they need tooling, and the quote states it before you commit to anything.

File types What artwork do you need from me?

Vector is ideal — AI, EPS or PDF. We also take PNG, JPG, WEBP, TIFF, PSD, GIF and ZIP, and honestly a clear photograph of a sketch is enough to quote from and start on.

No artwork What if I do not have artwork yet?

Send the idea — a rough drawing, a reference you like, or a description. We draw it up and send it back as a proof for you to approve before anything is made.

Proofs Do I see it before it is made?

Always. You get a free digital proof and nothing goes into production until you approve it. If it is not right, say so and we change it.

Contact How do I reach a person?

WhatsApp on +971 52 933 2878 is fastest, or email info@custompik.com. A person answers — there is no ticket queue between you and the people making the thing.

Quotes How do I get a price?

Send the artwork and the quantity and we come back with a fixed quote. Nothing on this site is charged automatically and you pay nothing up front.

Problems What if something arrives wrong?

Tell us and send a photograph. The proof you approved is the reference — if what arrived does not match it, that is on us to put right.
