Three placements, three sizes
A chest mark is usually 7 to 10 cm across, a sleeve badge a little smaller, and a back piece anywhere up to about 30 cm. One artwork, set up once, sized for each position.

Heavy fabric carries a heavy patch
Denim, canvas and leather take a dense embroidered patch without complaint. A thin shell puckers under one, so for lightweight jackets we suggest a flatter, lighter construction.

Leather and nylon are not ironed
Iron-on adhesive needs heat the fabric can take. Leather marks and nylon shells can melt, so on those jackets the patch goes on with thread, or with a sewn-in hook-and-loop panel.

Back pieces in one part or three
A large back design can be a single patch or a centre piece with top and bottom rockers, set up together so the curves meet when they are sewn on.

Sizing How big can a back patch be?
Up to about twelve inches, or 30 cm, across comfortably. Past that the weight of the thread starts to pull at the jacket, and we will tell you if your artwork is fighting the size.
Backing Can patches go on a leather jacket?
Yes, sewn on. Iron-on adhesive needs heat that marks leather, so leather jackets always take a sew-on patch, and we finish the edge for stitching.
Fabric Will a patch pucker on a thin jacket?
It can if the patch is denser than the fabric can carry. Tell us the jacket when you send the artwork and we will size the stitching for it.
Ordering Can I get the same logo in several sizes?
Yes. Chest, sleeve and back versions come from one artwork, and ordering them together means one setup rather than three.
Criteria What should I look for in a custom patch company?
Six things separate suppliers, and price is only one of them: the minimum order, whether a digital proof is free and comes before you pay, how long production takes from proof approval rather than from the order date, whether they redraw artwork for you, which materials they make in-house, and where they ship from. Ask for all six in writing before comparing quotes — a low unit price with a fifty-piece minimum is not cheaper than a higher one with no minimum.
Minimums Which custom patch company has no minimum order?

Comparing How do I compare custom patch suppliers in 2026?
Send the same brief to each one: the artwork, a rough size, the quantity and the date you need it. Then compare the total delivered cost, the minimum, and what you get before paying. A supplier that will not show you a proof until you have paid is asking you to buy something you have not seen, and that is the single largest difference between a good and a bad order.
